Why do we call this the Awesome Go Set? Because it's an awesome Go set at an awesome price!

Normally a board that looks this good would cost around the same price as this entire set. But thanks to a patented board design and careful negotiations with the manufacturer, you can buy a whole Go set instead!

This board combines several pieces of wood and a unique core, to make it highly resistant to warping or cracking. Each piece of top quality shin kaya is carefully selected to display the grain to its full effect and expertly joined to make the board practically indistinguishable from a single piece Go board. This means it's more resilient and longer lasting than traditional shin kaya boards, while still providing the attractive wood grain for which shin kaya is popular.

This Go game set also includes size 33 glass Go stones. There are 181 black stones and 180 white stones, each of which are 0.36 inches or 9.2 mm thick. Size 33 stones offer a nice compromise between thickness and stability on the board, and feel nice and round in your hand. They fit perfectly in the size 15 Go bowls, which are 5.9 inches or 15 cm in diameter. The bowls in this set are made from ash wood, with a deep and rich red hue that contrasts beautifully with the lighter colored board.

Although typically called 'glass stones', quality stones like the ones in this set would be better described as ceramic stones. These are much stronger and more resilient than you'd usually expect from glass, and won't crack or chip easily. The roundness means they rock more than thinner stones after being played. This is generally considered to be a desirable quality, and these stones tend to be preferred by serious players.

Shin kaya is what the Japanese typically call spruce (picea glauca), when it's used for making Go boards. It literally means 'new kaya' because spruce boards resemble traditional kaya boards in terms of color and grain.
